Ulmer Quick Guide: Mock Interview
This guide will walk you through how to access and record a mock interview within CareerTrak. Additionally, you will learn how to share your interview with others to receive feedback on your performance.
PART I: ACCESSING & RECORDING A MOCK INTERVIEW
Note that it is best to use Google Chrome for your web browser. Microsoft Edge and Safari for Macs will not work.
Step 1: Login to Cardinal Careers
Login to Cardinal Careers using your ULink username and password. If you do not have an account, please contact the Ulmer Career Center.
Step 2: Access Mock Interview List
Once logged in to Cardinal Careers, you will be taken to your profile homepage. From there, click on “Resources” on the left side and a menu will expand. Click on “Mock Interviews.”
If you have never logged in to Cardinal Careers, you will be asked to set up your profile. Follow the steps to do so and you will then be brought to your profile homepage.
You’ll be taken to your mock interview dashboard where you will see a listing of interviews available for you to take. In the example below the list includes “Test Interview.”
Step 3: Access Your Interview
Under the interview you wish to take click “Record New Attempt.”
You will then be taken to the “Welcome to Your Mock Interview Screen.” Click Continue. Then, you will be asked to test your microphone and camera. (Your computer may also ask your permission to use these items.)
Step 4: Practice for Your Interview
Click “Practice Question” to access a practice question before you record your actual interview. There are the successive screens for completing a practice question. You will then be taken to a screen that gives instructions on how to record your interview response. Click “Next” once you have read these instructions.
You will then be given direction on what to expect in the next steps. Once you are ready to begin your practice question, click “Practice Question.”
Upon clicking “Practice Question,” you will be taken to the practice question. The interviewer will narrate the question and then you will be given 30 seconds to prepare your response. At that time, the recording will begin, and you will have three minutes to record your response. After three minutes elapses, the recording will stop, whether or not you have finished speaking.
- If you cannot hear the interviewer well, note that you may read the interview question above the two video boxes.
- If you do not need the entire 30 second prep time, you may click “Record Answer” to begin recording your answer.
- Then, the button will turn into “Stop Recording”.
- If you finish your response before three minutes, you may click “Stop Recording” to stop the recording.
Step 5: Record Your Mock Interview
Once you’ve completed a practice question, click “Start Interview” to begin the interview.
You will be given important information about the interview. After reading this information, click “Let’s Begin.”
You will start your first mock interview question. After you hear the interviewer ask the question, you may click “Record Answer to give your response. If you do not click “Record Answer” within 30 seconds, the system will automatically start recording. When you’re finished recording your answer, click “Stop Recording.”
Remember, after 30 seconds the recording will begin for your response. After three minutes, the recording will cut off, whether or not you have finished sharing your answer.
Once you are finished with the interview question, click “Next Question” to move to the next interview question in the same manner. You will do this process for each question in the interview. There is status bar at the bottom of each question screen that will show you which question you are on out of the total number of questions in the interview.
PART II: MANAGING MOCK INTERVIEW OPTIONS
When you finish your Mock Interview, learn about the different options you have with what you can do with your interview, including sharing it with others, requesting feedback, and even recording a new attempt.
Step 1: Finish Your Interview & Manage Feedback Options
Once you have finished your interview you will see three options:
Request Feedback
When you request feedback, your interview will automatically be sent to the Ulmer Career Center for review, and a career coach will be in touch with you once that review is complete. You may send your interview to other individuals of your choosing by inserting their email addresses in the provided field, separated by commas.
Click “Submit” once you have selected the desired options.
Once you click Submit whoever you selected to review your interview will receive an email that contains a link they can click on to access your interview. Once they have inserted written feedback regarding your interview, you will receive an email via your UofL email address with that feedback.
Review Interview
If you select Review Interview, you will be brought to each question where you can autoplay the question-answer pairing or just play the answer.
If you have not yet submitted your interview for feedback, you will see a blue banner at the bottom of your screen, as this is the section where you would normally have received feedback if you sent off your interview.
When reviewing your mock interview, you will see three buttons:
- Delete
- Request Feedback
- Share Interview
DELETE
If you select Delete you will see a popup box that tells you if you delete the interview, you will not be able to see it again.
REQUEST FEEDBACK
If you select “Request Feedback,” you will see a popup like the one as previously covered in the Request Feedback section above.
SHARE INTERVIEW
If you select “Share Interview” you will see a popup box that allows you to share your interview with other individuals.
If you share your interview using this link, know that those who click on this link will ONLY be able to view your interview. They will NOT be able to provide written feedback in the system that will then be sent back to you via email. Therefore, if you wish for them to provide you feedback after sharing this link with them, you will need to arrange it on your own.
Exit Your Interview
If you already requested feedback and have finished reviewing all of them, click the “X” in the upper right corner of your screen. Then, you will be taken back to your Mock Interview “dashboard” in CareerTrak.
If you don’t choose to review your interview or request feedback, click “Exit” and you should also be returned to the Mock Interview “dashboard” in CareerTrak.
Step 2: Options Available on Mock Interview Dashboard
Once you exit your interview, you will be brought to your Mock Interview “dashboard.” From here there are a few things that you can do, such as:
- Review
- Share Interview
- Request Feedback
- Download
- Record New Attempt
Review Interview
If you click “Review” you will be taken to the interview that you recorded.
Share Interview
If you click “Share Interview” you will see a popup box that allows you to share your interview with other individuals.
The system will provide you with a URL link to share with anyone you wish. You can even set and save a Passcode if you wish to protect your privacy. If you click “View the Link”, a separate window/tab will open and will show you what the person with whom you’re sharing your interview will see.
The person with whom you shared your interview will only be able to view the interview as it took place. They will NOT be able to make electronic comments, though can follow up with you separately to provide their feedback.
Request Feedback
Once you click “Submit,” anyone whose email address you listed in the box will receive an email asking them to review your mock interview. This email will provide them a link where they can view the interview.
Note: the email will come from UniversityofLouisville@csm.symplicity.com, so please ensure the recipients are aware and check their spam/junk mailboxes in case the email does not appear in their inbox.
Download Interview
If you click “Download,” a box will pop up giving you the option to download your interview to a .zip file.
Record New Interview Attempt
If you click “Record New Attempt” you will be taken to a screen where you will begin a new attempt at your interview.
