College of Business kicks off the Elevate Portland Elementary Initiative
The College of Business is launching a new community outreach effort, the Elevate Portland Elementary Initiative, beginning with Nov. 20 kickoff event at 2 p.m. at Portland Elementary. The Portland neighborhood is one of the poorest in Louisville and the majority of the children in this school live below the poverty line. The initiative is designed to provide the students with basic needs that support a higher quality learning environment and to nurture aspirational goals that will encourage a path out of poverty. The first project will provide each student with a sweatshirt that will not only keep them warm during the cold winter months, but also include their target high school graduation date as an inspirational reminder.
For more information about future projects, contact business professor Beth Davis-Sramek at email@example.com.
