Spring 2019 Dean’s Message

May 20, 2019

As we approach the end of the term, it strikes me as a time for reflection on all that we as an organization have achieved in the past 12 months. As you may know, this March marked the end of my second year as Dean and I could not be more proud of, or more energized by, the dedication and commitment to excellence that the faculty, staff, students, and alumni have shown.

We have launched new programs and will launch more this fall. Our MSBA program exceeded our expectations and we have begun to expand our international profile through the active recruitment of students from India and China. We have launched our Franchise Management Certificate program in an exclusive partnership with the International Franchise Association. On April 18th we received final approval from the Board of Trustees to roll out our new Distilled Spirits Business Certificate.

We have invested in bolstering our staff in the areas of recruiting, marketing, advancement, and most importantly, student advising and services. We have also hired new faculty and staff  in Computer Information Systems, Marketing, and the School of Accountancy.

And we have recommitted ourselves to four core values, codified into the acronym LEAP. These values define our intent and guide our activities as we LEAP forward as a College.

Louisville

We partner with the City of Louisville and the broader business community to develop programs and initiatives that support the growth of both a leading university and a thriving global city.

Entrepreneurial

We instill in all our students an entrepreneurial mindset, which enables them to recognize opportunities, drive creative change, and pursue possibility.

Accelerating

We create access for all — regardless of differences, seen and unseen — to accelerate their lives and their successes in pursuit of personal and professional ambitions.

Principled

We develop principled citizens and business leaders who act ethically and with integrity, shaping sustainable and socially responsible organizations that change the world.

In the spirit of this growth, this issue of Currency is highlighting a few of those areas which directly serve and support our most important resource, our student body. We are proud of the community we have built at the College of Business and appreciate the support of our alumni network, partners, and friends of the University. We continue to strive to be the singular example of how to build a business school that serves its particular constituents extraordinarily well.
