Sophonie Bazile
Coordinator Online Student Support, Online ProgramsBio
Before working for the Online Programs Office in the College of Business at UofL, Sophonie was a teaching assistant (TA) and PhD student in the Department of Geography at the University of Kentucky. She was a TA for courses ranging from the environment to health geographies to immigration. As an immigrant from Haiti, the latter is a topic that is near and dear to her heart as she continues to pursue her doctoral degree in geography. Using queer theory, her doctoral research will examine how immigration categories/statuses spatially and temporally organize “foreign” bodies to determine who belongs and who is excluded with a focus on Haitians living with temporary protected status in Louisville, Kentucky. Additionally, she enjoys working on editing projects in her spare time. She is a freelance editor and copyedits and proofreads undergraduate theses for seniors, dissertations for doctoral candidates, and even research briefs for university research centers.
