Bio

Charlie W. Johnson retired from Immanuel Realty, LLC, and the former chief
executive officer of Driving for Inner-City Development, C.W. Johnson XPress, and
former chair of New Concept Solutions. He became director of Project Empower,
a youth workforce development initiative in Louisville, in August 2001. A member
of the Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana Business Hall of Fame, he is former
president, chief executive officer and co-founder of Active Transportation in
Louisville. In 13 years, the company grew to be the nation’s largest minority-owned
trucking business with more than 1,500 over-the-road trucks and 3,000 employees.
Johnson started Active Transportation following 16 years in management positions
with Ford Motor Company, and a five-year career in the National Football League
with the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Colts. He has a bachelor’s degree in
history and physical education from UofL.
