The Exchange Dean’s Message October 2023

November 9, 2023
Dean Jeff Guan

Greetings to our esteemed business community and College of Business friends.

I trust this message finds you in the best of spirits. Homecoming, a celebration of our shared heritage and triumphs, just recently happened on our beloved campus. It was an exhilarating spectacle, rekindling the spirit of our College of Business alumni who graced us with their presence at our college’s halftime speakeasy reception within the Angel’s Envy Cub at L&N Stadium. The fond memories and camaraderie reminded us of the pride we all share as graduates of this exceptional institution.

Alumni Fellow

I’m thrilled to introduce our distinguished 2023 College of Business Alumni Fellow, Camilla Abel Schroeder. A visionary leader and a shining example of our alumni’s exceptional achievements, Camilla’s journey from a Business Administration major to President and Owner of Advance Ready Mix is truly inspiring. Her remarkable contributions to the community and her commitment to philanthropy exemplify the values we hold dear at the College of Business. I want to also thank Camilla for all her work as the Chair of the Board of Advisors for the College of Business.

Big Ideas

In other exciting news, I recently had the privilege of joining 150 esteemed business leaders in Boston on GLI’s annual GLIDE trip, graciously sponsored by Norton Healthcare. Discussions during the trip centered around fostering innovation in industry clusters, development in key sectors like manufacturing and technology, and the critical role of education in shaping a robust talent pipeline.

Engaging with our business community remains paramount to address their needs and enhance opportunities for our students. Our centers and dedicated directors play a crucial role in advancing these dialogues, driving innovation, and building meaningful connections with the industry.

AI and Healthcare

On a forward-thinking note, while on GLIDE I had an insightful conversation with Russ Cox, Norton Healthcare’s CEO, regarding the integration of AI within healthcare. The promising results of AI adoption in the medical field could signify a future where enhanced productivity and lower costs redefine how we offer quality products and services in both healthcare and higher education.

Stay tuned as we delve deeper into AI’s potential with an upcoming talk aiming to unravel the possibilities AI holds for higher education. Together, we can embrace this evolving landscape and pave the way for an even brighter future for our students and the community.

Your continued support and engagement with the College of Business are invaluable, and I eagerly look forward to our journey of growth and collaboration.
