Bio
Robert C. Ayotte retired in 2000 as president and chief executive officer of Saint-
Gobain Ceramics and Plastics, Inc. Following three years in the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers, he joined Corning Glass Works. In 1981, he came to Louisville as
president and general manager of Corhart Refractories Company. In 1985 he led a
management team that acquired Corhart and two years later sold the business to
France ‘s Compagnie de Saint-Gobain and became president and chief executive
officer of what is now Saint-Gobain Ceramics and Plastics. Ayotte is a director of
Glenview Trust, Amcast Industrial Corporation, and Vogt Ice, Inc., a trustee of
Pikeville College, and a senior member of the University of Louisville Board of
Overseers. He has held leadership positions with the Louisville Area Chamber of
Commerce, Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana, Lincoln Trail Council of the Boy
Scouts, and the UofL Athletic Association. He is an engineering graduate of the
University of Rhode Island and a member of its Engineering Hall of Fame.
