The Exchange October 2026 Dean's Message

Dear College of Business community,

Fall is always an exciting time at the College of Business, and the past few weeks have been especially meaningful as we have celebrated our students, alumni and the people who make our College such a special place. 

One of my favorite events each year is our Dean’s Recognition, where we have the opportunity to celebrate the academic achievements of our students. It is always inspiring to see so many students recognized for the hard work they have put into their education and the commitment they have made to their academic success. Our students are at the center of everything we do, and recognizing their accomplishments is something I always look forward to. 

We also recently welcomed students to Biz Bash, an opportunity for them to learn more about everything available to them within the College of Business. From academic programs and student organizations to career resources and other ways to get involved, events like Biz Bash help students make connections and discover opportunities beyond the classroom. Creating that sense of belonging and helping students take full advantage of their College of Business experience is an important part of how we support their success. 

Another highlight was celebrating an important milestone for the Ulmer Career Center: 20 years of helping our students turn their education into opportunity. For two decades, the Ulmer team has connected students with employers, internships, career resources and experiences that prepare them for what comes next. It was wonderful to welcome students, alumni, employers and friends back to the College to celebrate the impact the center has made and the many opportunities still ahead. 

That focus on our students has been evident throughout the fall. I have enjoyed seeing them connect with employers at the Fall Accounting and Finance Career Fair, celebrating our Yum! Scholars and participating in events and conversations across the College. These opportunities are important reminders that a business education is about more than what happens in the classroom. It is also about the connections, experiences and relationships our students build along the way. 

And speaking of outstanding alumni, I am thrilled that Louisville Football Head Coach Jeff Brohm ’96 has been named our 2026 College of Business Alumni Fellow. As someone who loves Cardinal football, I have to admit this one is especially fun! Coach Brohm’s connection to UofL extends well beyond the football field, and we are proud to count him among our College of Business alumni. 

Congratulations also to Chris ’90 and Lisa Dischinger ’11, who have been named UofL’s 2026 Alumni of the Year. Chris, a College of Business finance graduate, and Lisa have made a tremendous impact on Louisville and continue to demonstrate what it means to stay connected to and support our university. I recently had the opportunity to spend time with them and members of our real estate community at their home, which made this recognition even more special. 

There is so much happening at the College of Business, but what continues to stand out to me are the people behind it all. Our students are achieving great things, our alumni remain deeply connected and our faculty, staff and community partners continue to create opportunities that move our College forward. 

Thank you for being part of it. I look forward to seeing many of you during Homecoming, and I’ll certainly be cheering on the Cards!
