Undergraduate & Graduate Internships

Internships are an excellent way to recruit top talent to your organization. Students seek out work-based learning opportunities to gain real-world experience. Undergraduate students seek out the head start on their career, internships are a cornerstone of the graduate student experience, and employers are able to shape their future workforce.

Undergraduate Internships

How do I get started hiring a co-op student or intern?

Employers can use Cardinal Careers to post part- and full-time co-ops and internships and temporary, part-time, and full-time positions. This is one of the best ways to reach our students and is completely free for employers to use!

If you are developing an internship, please be sure the following criteria are met:

  • Follow NACE best practices on internships
  • Know the Department of Labor’s laws regarding hourly employees
  • Develop a student assignment with a thorough job description
  • Ensure that at least 75% of the student’s tasks are related to their major and no more than 10-15% administrative
  • Describe the supervision structure and whether there will be an on-site supervisor

Once employers post a co-op or internship on Cardinal Careers, the review process will begin. Once approved, students will begin applying for positions.

If you are interested in average hourly rates for interns, please contact the Ulmer Career Center.

Please contact Paige Erhart or the Ulmer Career Center for questions about hiring undergraduate interns.

How do I ensure an internship is eligible for academic credit?

College of Business students completing internships could receive academic credit for an internship. Although not all students will choose to receive academic credit for their internship, there are criteria that must be met for an internship to be eligible for credit. The review process will look at the following criteria:

  • Specific job duties & responsibilities
  • Internships should be substantial and practical, directly related to an area of students’ studies.
  • 75% of job responsibilities should be directly related to the major or minor of the intern. It is inappropriate for an intern to function as a “go-fer” or move from one clerical task to another.

Please contact the Ulmer Career Center for any questions regarding internships for academic credit.

Graduate Internships

Expand the reach of your talent search by hiring masters-level interns from the University of Louisville. The UofL Graduate Internship Track is an innovative, unique partnership between the College of Business and the business community. Students from our Full-Time MBA, Innovation MBA, Master of Science in Accounting and Analytics (MSAA) and Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) can access exceptional employment opportunities that provide real-world work experience in business settings.

Students function as conventional employees during normal work hours, subject to company standards for work performance, behavior, and appearance. Students understand the internship comes with no guarantee of subsequent full-time employment, and any negotiation for another position is the responsibility of the student and the company
