LUCAS NAMED MEADA GIBBS OUTSTANDING TEACHER-SCHOLAR

Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs Kristen Lucas was awarded the Meada Gibbs Outstanding Teacher-Scholar Award at the Association for Business Communication annual conference in October. The Meada Gibbs Award is the top teaching award granted by ABC, in recognition of significant contributions to business communication teaching methodology and concepts.

Dr. Lucas, along with her colleagues at UofL, has developed and championed an innovative business communication curriculum that focuses on developing business-specific communication competencies. She has published articles on the curriculum in Business and Professional Communication Quarterly and BizEdMagazine. She has facilitated numerous “teach-the-teacher” workshops at international conferences and has been invited to speak about the curriculum at AACSB conferences. Faculty from more than 100 universities have attended workshops, downloaded related instructional materials, and/or have reached out for additional information on how to implement the curriculum. Dr. Lucas currently is co-authoring Competent: Becoming a Better Business Communicator, which is a textbook based on the competency-based curriculum.
