2024 Young Women LEAD Event Celebrates Female Leadership

The 2024 Young Women LEAD event, sponsored in part by the College of Business, brought together 500 high school females from the region to hear professional female leaders in a variety of industries share their own experiences as teenagers. Guest speakers Michelle Lucas, Mahogany Mayfield, and Keynote Speaker Nikki Lanier talked about the challenges that shaped their growth into the professionals they are today. They shared opportunities to get involved through organizations such as Higher Orbits, a non-profit with a mission of promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) along with leadership, teamwork, and communication through the use of spaceflight.

Additionally, Kentucky First Lady Britainy Beshear spoke to attendees about the difference just one person can make and the far-reaching impact that can come from choosing kindness, noting that “the smallest moments can make the biggest difference.”
