Remaining the Underdog

RJS came in 2nd in the opening round track, giving us the opportunity to take a wildcard slot in the semifinals. Nothing new for the team that was not originally selected to compete in these competitons. We’ve got very few minor changes to make before we present again at 4:15. It is almost showtime again… one more time for the underdogs.

Team RJS

The Competition Rounds Begin

The waiting is over. Tomorrow (Friday) we begin the competition rounds. We go up against Brigham Young University, Michigan, Monash University from Australia, and Thammasat University from Thailand. Each team will have fifteen minutes to present to venture capitalists and then twenty minutes to answer their questions. We find out at lunch Friday whether we advance to the finals round or enter the consolation round. Whatever the results, I’m proud of our RJS team and all the hard work they have done to represent UofL.

All I can say is WOW!!!

So we just finished the tradeshow. What an experience! This was by far the best, whilst the most cramped and stuffy, trade show yet! ;).Trade Show Pic We made awesome connections (we are about to be taken out to dinner by some NYC attorneys that we met), and managed to garner a good bit of attention from the camera crew as well (the nature of our business doesn’t hurt. There were many well-prepared and high quality teams there, and we have no doubt that this will be the most intense competition yet. We’re off, so have a great night and wish us well for tomorrow morning, k?

Feedback Round Complete

So a ham and egg biscuit walks into a bar, see? and the bartender says, “Sorry, we don’t serve breakfast.”

We presented to a four judge panel–no Q&A, and everything went smoothly. We are on a tight schedule; about to grab a quick bite before getting everything prepared for the trade show tonight! We’ll talk to you all soon.

RJS (yeah…. what? okay!!)

The Battle Begins

Our team is about to head across the street for our practice round and the adrenaline is flowing. We met up with our nemesis from Thailand, and the war has begun! The University of Louisville IS a FORCE to be dealt with and we will continue to uphold the tradition of excellence and perseverance as we proceed in the rounds of competition.

It’s been great catching up with some of the other schools who we had established relationships with from past competitions. We look forward to bringing home more honors for Louisville on Saturday night.

More to come…

We Have Arrived

We just arrived in Austin and the excitement is in the air. All the work, all the long nights, all the Saturday morning meetings, all the Sunday afternoon meeting have brought us here. We have been given the opportunity to present our idea at the global level and we are ready to go.

Tomorrow is a practice day and the trade show competition. We’ve got a killer display and we are ready for the big show.

We’re off to the races!

No garland at the end of this one, but a lot is at stake. I know the entire RJS team is pumped up beyond belief and ready to represent the UL College of Business and the IMBA program in this, the premier business plan competition worldwide.

The plane leaves in about 2 hours, and I’m about to zip up my bags. Early thoughts of ‘bring it on, Thommasat!’ are only echoes of ‘step up Loyola!’ and ‘give me your best shot Nebraska!’ Come on, right here on the chin…. there isn’t one among us that can’t take it!

They say every dog has his day…. I’m thinking this underdog is going to need two, and the coming Friday and Saturday of this first week of May, 2007…. well, they sound like great days to me.

Let’s get it started…

Moot Corp is what we have worked so hard for these last several months. During the Business Plan circuit, we have had the opportunity to compete at the highest levels, sparred with the toughest venture capitalists around, and earned the respect of many along the way. I must admit it’s tough to compete against “the cure for cancer” when you are pushing an energy enhanced citrus liqueur, but we rose to the challenge on several occaisions and I expect RJS to raise its game yet again for the big one; Moot Corp “the Superbowl of Business Plan Competitions.”

On our way

We have a very exciting and intense weekend coming up. While everyone is placing their bets on Oaks and Derby horses, we’ll be honing the skills we’ve gained from the IMBA program and presenting our business plan in front of the best of the best. Looking forward to it!
