Small Business Institute

The SBI is a service for our corporate partners, a community service linking area small businesses to resources and management expertise of the University of Louisville College of Business. The SBI provides confidential and professional management assistance at no cost to the small businesses. Through the SBI program, senior students in very small teams and their faculty resource professor provide expertise and experience to small businesses seeking help in such areas as marketing, operations, inventory control, and expansion studies.

Why Have a Small Business Management Assistance Program?

Small businesses create the majority of new jobs and are frequently the source of innovation in the U.S. The 14 million small businesses in the United States comprise 96% of the total of all companies. The unpleasant fact is that many thousands of small businesses in the country fail each year.

The Small Business Administration originally conceived the idea to establish a mutually rewarding relationship between colleges and their business communities. The purpose is to promote the retention and growth of successful small business enterprises throughout the nation.

Both owners of small businesses and students benefit from the program. Students receive an opportunity to put their classroom knowledge and skills to work, while businesses enjoy access to cutting-edge consulting services that may not otherwise be available to them.

Due to the demand, not all project requests are accepted, and selections are based on the likelihood of success and the quality of educational experience provided to the students. Services are contained within a semester schedule. Project request deadlines are May 15th for the Summer (Launch in June) and December 15th for the Spring (Launch in February).

Submit your request through our ConsultMBA form. If you would like information about the SBI, other services for our corporate partners, or would like to discuss how the SBI may assist your small business, please contact:
