Tim Capps given posthumous award

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The American Horse Council has given a posthumous award to Tim Capps, the director of the College of Business Equine Industry Program until his death in April 2017.

His daughter, Meredith Capps, accepted the Van Ness Award in his honor June 10 at the AHC’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. The award is named for the late Marjorie Van Ness of New Jersey and presented to an individual that best emulates her dedication and commitment to the improvement of the horse industry at the state level.

Capps, 71, a highly regarded consultant in the horse racing industry, had been director of the Equine Industry Program since 2011. He died April 22, 2017, following a stroke.

The University of Louisville College of Business has established a memorial scholarship in his memory and is seeking additional donations. The Timothy T. Capps Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to one equine business student at UofL who possesses the same positive qualities that Capps exhibited throughout his life – a strong will, a passion for horses and a desire to succeed and learn. The award is $3,000 ($1,500 per semester).
