The 2014 Brown-Forman Cardinal Challenge was again a great success in snowy Louisville. Of the top 12 teams selected to compete, all defeated the winter weather to arrive to the competition with the exception of FluidScreen from Yale due to a winter storm in Connecticut.
The competition was fierce and our distinguished judges had a difficult job in selecting the top four teams from Round 1 to move to the finals. There were more than 25 successful venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and business leaders judging the Cardinal Challenge event, sharing their expertise in new business startups.
Competition Director, Professor Van Clouse, made the announcement of teams advancing to the finals after the luncheon and comments from College of Business Dean Carolyn Callahan and Keynote Speaker The Honorable Greg Fischer, Mayor of Louisville.
The teams not selected for the finals participated in a Fast Pitch competition. One member of each team had 60 seconds to pitch its business concept without the use of technology.

The first-place team in the Business Plan Presentation Competition receives $15,000, an invitation to the 2014 Global Venture Labs Investment Competition, and the lucrative “Launch in Louisville” Package. Second-, third- and fourth-place teams receive $5,000, $3,000 and $1,500, respectively. In the Fast Pitch Competition, the first-place team receives $1,500, and $1,000 is awarded for second place. All teams not awarded prizes receive $750 for participating in the competition.
