The new Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) helps answer unmet needs in the employment landscape, giving graduates added options in a changing job market.

Businesses increasingly rely on data to make strategic decisions.  As the advances in data capture increase potential insights, the need for people who know how to manipulate and interpret this data is increasing. Many successful companies such as Google, Amazon, and UPS have built their entire business model around analytics.  They struggle to find new, well-qualified employees. The workforce demand has already outnumbered qualified job seekers with the gap predicted only to increase.

Customizing our offerings to meet the needs of the labor market involved launching a graduate-level degree in business data analytics. This need is why the University of Louisville has introduced a new Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program launching in August of 2018.* The results are better marketability for the students and support for regional economic development. It was an easy choice, but building the program was not an easy task. The UofL MSBA has been under development for several years.

  • “The meticulous process involved in building a program like this ensures a high-quality program with real value. Coupling this opportunity with a competitive internship will only enhance the skills the students acquire in the program.”

Vernon Foster, Executive Director of Graduate Programs
University of Louisville College of Business

MSBA students study both data analysis and business intelligence methods to perform predictive modeling. By analyzing data about past business performance, they can predict future performance and appraise strategic business decisions.

The MSBA competitive internship component is rare among graduate programs and truly sets it apart. For those who qualify, the internship lasts 11 months and provides paid and practical work experience in the field.  This is work experience students can tout on their resume, in addition to their education credentials, when entering the job market.

But the most significant advantage of the program is the quality of our faculty. MSBA classes are taught by faculty who are all Ph.D.-level researchers with years of expertise in related fields. Students in the program graduate with combined high-level analytics, business savvy, and leadership skills that make a tremendous impact on their marketability.
