Today's complex business environment requires the expertise of professional accountants. Organizations of all sizes, in all industries, face critical decisions that demand the perspective of professional accountants. Mergers and acquisitions, capital investment, cost and risk management decisions, and increasingly complex business transactions require a thorough examination and understanding of the effect on a company's balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow.
The objective of the 30 credit hour Master of Accountancy (MAC) is to provide candidates with the necessary skills and knowledge to begin successful careers as certified public accountants (CPAs).
MAC classes meet in the evening. A student can enroll as either a part-time or full-time student (9 hours for full-time). During the fall and spring semesters, courses are typically offered Monday through Thursday, one evening a week, from 5:30 until 8:15 p.m. During the summer semester, there is one five-week sessions and classes meet three evenings a week-- Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 5:30-8:15 p.m. All required courses are offered on a rotating basis in the fall and spring semesters, along with a variety of elective courses.
If you graduated (or are graduating) from one of the Kentucky state universities (Eastern, Western, Northern, Murray State, Morehead, Kentucky and Louisville) with a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in business, the GMAT requirement is waived. THAT'S RIGHT! You do not need to take the GMAT to apply to the U of L Masters of Accountancy program.
Certificate in Accounting
For those applicants who did not earn a bachelor's degree in accounting, the University of Louisville Certificate in Accounting is likely to be a better choice. The certificate program covers the Master of Accountancy prerequisites at the undergraduate tuition rate, and generally gives students the eligibility they need to sit for the CPA exam.
