Marketing Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Marketing! The marketing major is one of the most popular majors in the College and you will find a lot of information on this website regarding the major. We also have an attractive brochure you can pick up from the department office or photo of P.S. Raju, Chair, Dept. of Marketingrequest one to be mailed to you. For those who have chosen to major in another discipline we also offer a minor in marketing. We presently have eleven faculty members in the department, including two new faculty this year. We also use a limited number of adjunct faculty who are instrumental in bringing their wealth of real world experiences into the classroom.
The field of marketing has several exciting career opportunities in areas such as sales, advertising and promotion, retailing, supply chain management, marketing research, product management, etc. The marketing department offers a number of elective courses so students can choose electives that best suit their career choice. The department also offers an optional co-op experience. Companies such as GE, Target, and Humana offer co-op experiences to our students. In addition to providing hands-on job experience to our students, these co-ops are instrumental in securing better job opportunities for marketing majors.

You will also be pleased to know that the Ulmer Career Management Center in the College is always ready to assist you. Marketing students also have the opportunity to enrich their experience by being part of several student organizations related to the field of marketing. These include the SMA (Student Marketing Association), Student Sales Network, and the CardShirt Company. These organizations provide networking opportunities, mentoring, and hands-on experience in running a business.

If you have already chosen marketing as your major or minor we are here to help you with your academic goals. Please feel free to stop by the department office. Charlotte Ford is the Administrative Assistant for the department and our discipline advisor in the Advising Office is Dolores Calebs. You can also talk to me or to any of the other marketing faculty if you wish to know more about the field of marketing. If you are still undecided about your major or minor field, I hope you will take a serious look at what the department has to offer. Either way, I wish you all the best in your academic activities within the College of Business and at U of L.

P. S. Raju, Chair
