EIP students take all of the core courses in the business administration discipline, as well as 30 hours of specialized courses focused on the development and management of equine enterprises, events, and activities. Since we are located in the heart of the famed Kentucky horse country, our students also have the opportunity for field trips, internships, and contacts with prominent industry professionals who visit the classroom.
The College of Business is the only AACSB International accredited business degree in the world with an equine major. Students from 16 participating states may qualify for Kentucky in-state tuition rates through the Academic Common Market.

Our Equine majors take the entire business core, as well as specialized courses in equine business. The four-year degree is designed to prepare a diversified student body for a wide range of career opportunities. The College of Business offers a “Flight Plan” for a BSBA in Equine Business. Flight Plan is an exciting initiative that enables students to stay on course to graduate in four years or in the time frame of your choice. Click for more information on the Flight Plan.
A one-year Certificate in Equine Business is available to persons who have earned a four-year degree and are seeking specialized training in Equine Business. The Certificate program is an undergraduate course of specially tailored equine courses.
The Equine Business Certificate is the only program of its kind. The program enhances the understanding of the horse business and prepares the student for a position in the field of the equine industry. Students benefit from the small class size and faculty experienced in the area of equine business.

Equine Business Careers
Horses are utilized today for a wide variety of recreational purposes, and in a society where discretionary funds can be spent in numerous ways, there has never been a time in the equine community when business-trained professionals are in higher demand.
The opportunities for employment in the horse business are amazingly varied, crossing numerous occupational categories, including:
- Equine product sales
- Farm management
- Bloodstock advisory
- Media and marketing
- Horse training
- Race track management
- Trade association administration
- Horse health care management
Employers of EIP graduates include Churchill Downs, The Jockey Club, the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, the Florida Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, NTRA Advantage, International Racehorse Transport, the Kentucky Horse Park, and a variety of well-known farms, training operations, and bloodstock agencies.
Teaching faculty and staff possess degrees in finance, law, animal science, or liberal arts. In addition to teaching, research, and service efforts, all have many years experience in the horse industry. Equine professionals from throughout the United States also participate in classes as guest lecturers or present seminars. The experienced and diverse faculty in the EIP and the College of Business provide students with a unique opportunity to learn essential business skills and apply them in an industry that is worldwide in scope.
