Fiet and entrepreneurship PhD faculty ranked among top researchers in the world Print

James Fiet photo     Prof. James Fiet, the college’s Brown-Forman chair in entrepreneurship, has been named the eighth most-prolific researcher in the world and fifth in the United States in a new study ranking top entrepreneurship researchers and their affiliations.
The study by researchers from Howard University and Morgan State University examined 5,909 papers published from 1995 through 2006 in leading entrepreneurship journals.  Their goal was to identify authors and institutions with the most significant impact on entrepreneurship.

The authors hope their conclusions add balance to the growing interest in evaluating and ranking entrepreneurship programs, which currently are rated without consideration of the scholarly contributions made by the programs.
The study’s rankings also highlighted five other members of the external faculty for the UofL entrepreneurship PhD, including the #1 and #2 ranked researchers in the world:  Scott Shane (Case Western Reserve University) and Dean A. Shepard (Indiana University).   Per Davidson (Queensland University of Technology) was ranked #12,  Simon Parker (University of Durham) tied for #49 and Howard E. Aldrich (University of North Carolina) was #101.
Davidson, Fiet and Shepard also were named to the top author list for the expanded research period of 1987-2006.
Fiet, who founded the college’s PhD in entrepreneurship program, also has published two books on entrepreneurial research.
“Rankings of Top Entrepreneurship Researchers and Affiliations 1995-2006” was researched by Micah E.S. Crump (Howard) and Augustus Abbery and Xingxing Zu (MSU).
