School of Accountancy students scored big in the first year of a new scholarship program created by the Kentucky Society of CPAs Educational Foundation. Of 27 scholarships awarded to students in Kentucky, nine went to College of Business Accountancy majors.
“I applaud our students for their achievement, and I thank the Accountancy faculty for making these scholarships a priority,” said Bill Stout, director of the School of Accountancy. “They actively promoted the opportunity in their classrooms and with emails, and prepared letters of recommendation on behalf of the students.”
Students receiving the Society’s Educational Foundation Scholarships included Kerry Griesinger, Laken Letellier, Ryan Ewing, Nick Kues, Grace Wilbert, Casey Willis and Sarah Weir.
Stephanie Loper received the Wm. Caldwell Scholarship through the foundation and Bryan Eble was awarded the Henderman Jessee Scholarship, also through the foundation.
Dave Calzi, managing partner of the Ernst & Young CPA Louisville office and the chairman of the Societies’ “Pave the Way” scholarship campaign has high expectations for the program’s benefits.
“Accounting firms and businesses continue to demand quality people to satisfy the requirements of complex business environments,” he said. “A scholarship award can be the difference needed to kick-start a student's professional dreams and take full advantage of an accounting degree to make a real difference for our community and beyond."
The scholarships recognize scholastic achievement and leadership qualities in students who plan to become CPAs and intend to stay and work in Kentucky upon graduation. The awards range from $1,000 to $2,500.
