Project delays should not slow plans for downtown MBA facility, says Dean Moyer Print

Recent delays in the development of the Museum Plaza project should not impact UofL College of Business plans to relocate its graduate programs downtown, according to Dean Charlie Moyer.
“Our portion of the project has always been a separate part of the development,” he said.

“We’re continuing to refine our design for the building and plan to break ground later this year.”
News reports in recent weeks detailed engineering issues and delays in financing for the innovative $490 million project.  Together the problems slowed and then stopped work on the towers planned near the intersection of Seventh St. and River Road.
However, the college’s portion of the project is nearly a block away, behind four historic building facades located from 615 to 621 West Main Street. When completed, the buildings’ north end (facing Washington Street) will include a plaza that will connect to the Ali Center and the Riverfront Belvedere, and provide access to the diagonal elevator going to the Museum Plaza towers. The college will own approximately 40,000 sq. ft. on floors two through six of the Main Street space, creating state-of-the-art learning and networking spaces for graduate programs and professional seminars and conferences.
“Museum Plaza is an ambitious, visionary project that has the potential to impact the city’s fortunes on many levels,” said Dean Moyer.  “You don’t create that kind of change without challenges. The timetable is for us to be offering MBA classes downtown in 2010, and we intend to make that happen.”
The college will finance the construction of its portion of the project with private contributions from individuals and corporate interests, including offering a variety of naming opportunities for spaces within the facility.
