Since founding the company in 1993, Boden has overseen investments in more than 65 different companies and partnerships. The Yearling Fund is an early stage venture capital fund focused on Kentucky-based companies. Previously he was a senior consultant at GE Consumer Products where he was a founding member of the Internet team that created the first system to sell microwave ovens over the Internet. He is the co-founder and chief technology officer of Passion4Art, one of the largest online communities of visual artists in the world, with over 2,000 registered artists from 65 countries.

Emont is a partner with Triathlon Medical Ventures and a managing partner of the Kentucky Seed Capital Fund. His two decades of health care industry experience include 12 years in venture capital. Prior to joining Triathlon and KCSF, he was the director of venture capital for Humana Inc. where he managed a venture capital fund that made investments totaling over $75 million in 11 portfolio companies and three venture funds. His experience includes service with Baxter Healthcare Corporation, IAI Venture Capital Group and the successful launch and sale of oncology-focused biotechnology start-up OncoTherapeutics. Prior to joining Heron, he was a principal at CID Capital, a life science and technology venture fund. His portfolio responsibilities included Axiomed Spine Corporation, Bridge Semiconductor Corporation, EKOS Corporation, HyperNex, Inc. (acquired by Nova Measuring Instruments) and Renal Solutions, Inc. (acquired by Fresenius Medical Care). He also has served as an advisor to the National Science Foundation for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. He has a BS degree in engineering from Purdue and an MBA from Harvard. He is a member of the college’s Board of Advisors and the Entrepreneurship Council.

McGarvey joined KSTC in October 2002 as the venture finance director of The Innovation Group. A Kentucky native, Matt spent 20 years in Washington DC, most recently serving as the Vice President and Corporate Controller for XM Satellite Radio, a high-tech start-up that raised over $1.8 billion. Prior to XM, Matt was a financial consulting executive for Accenture. Prior to Accenture, Matt also served in various executive financial accounting positions at Verizon Communications. Matt holds a BA from Lambuth University and is a licensed CPA.

Most recently he was part of the PlanSoft management team that successfully merged with seeUthere in 2004 creating OnVantage. He also founded Synchrony Communications in 1997, raising $40 million in VC funding. He earned his BS from Miami University and an MBA from the J.L. During the late 1990’s, he was the lead manager in several software, healthcare IT and healthcare services deals. An entrepreneur-student while in college, he provided consulting services such as writing business plans and creating complex financial models to local growth companies that were seeking to raise outside capital.
