ADMISSIONS

Admittance into the program requires an MBA degree from an accredited business school or the equivalent of the core courses in UofL's MBA program. Students without an MBA or these courses may enroll in UofL's MBA program and then reapply for admission to the PhD program in the semester prior to the completion of the masters degree.

A completed PhD application consists of the following:

  • An on-line application to the graduate school (http://graduate.louisville.edu/apply)
  • Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) scores for which information can be obtained from: Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)
  • A transcript of grades for courses already completed at the graduate level, plus an undergraduate transcript of you deem it to be relevant.
  • A curriculum vitae describing your work or education-related experiences for the last 10 years.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • A personal statement explaining why you want to pursue a PhD in entrepreneurship, what you think you will do with it and why you think that you will be able to make a contribution if you are admitted into the program.
  • Those applicants whose native language is not English and who do not hold a degree from a university where the language for instruction is English must also submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

The Entrepreneurship PhD program does not offer course credit to transfer students from other graduate programs. Students from other doctoral programs may apply for admission with the understanding that previous coursework may not be substituted for UofL program requirements.

Admission Cycle and Application Deadline

The Entrepreneurship PhD program operates on a biennial admission cycle. Very qualified students may be admitted during 2007 for the next class beginning in August 2008. Most applicants, however, will benefit in the interim from taking preparatory classes, completing their MBA degree and/or studying for the GMAT.

The PhD Program has a number of graduate assistantships, in which students practice research skills and teaching of undergraduate entrepreneurship courses (see Financial Aid for information). The program is currently accepting applications for the August 2008 class.

University Fellowships may also be available through the Graduate School (see Financial Aid for information). The application deadline for consideration to be nominated for a graduate school fellowship is January 15, 2008.
