What is a business elective?

Most of the majors in the College of Business allow you to take at least one business elective. A business elective is any 300-400 level business course not already required in your major. Remember, prerequisites must be followed.

What courses can I take that will transfer from other schools? Do these grades count?

Classes from other two and four year academic institutions will usually transfer to U of L. However, courses taken from other schools are not guaranteed to transfer as equivalent to U of L courses and may be accepted as elective credits. Prior planning will help insure that courses taken will meet specific degree requirements at U of L, particularly in the General Education component.

Grades earned at other academic institutions do not transfer to U of L. They are used, however, to determine how a student is admitted to U of L. The transfer courses will be posted to the U of L transcript as earned hours only.

What GPA is required in the College of Business?

The GPA required to be in Good Standing in the College of Business is 2.8. Students transferring to U of L must have earned a 2.8 at their previous institutions in order to be admitted in Good Standing. Transfer students with a GPA between 2.0 and 2.5 may be admitted conditionally. Once a transfer student is admitted, his transfer GPA is no longer used. In order to graduate, you must have a 2.5 GPA overall at U of L, and in your major courses.

What happens if my GPA drops below 2.5?

Generally, a student whose GPA drops below 2.8 is placed on Academic Probation . If you are on Probation, you must earn a 2.70 each semester until your overall returns to 2.8.

Can I repeat a course? Will it improve my GPA?

Students are allowed 4 repeats to replace a previous grade of “C” or lower. The student must fill out a repeat form in order to replace the grade. When the course is repeated, the grade from the first attempt is removed from the GPA, but still appears on the transcript, and the second attempt is calculated in. If you make a better grade, your GPA will improve. It is a good idea to use repeats to improve your GPA.
