Undergraduate FAQs
Am I required to be advised before I can attend U of L? How do I make an appointment?
All business majors are required to be advised upon admission into the College of Business. First-semester freshmen are advised during Freshman Orientation. Transfer students must be advised once they have been accepted into the College of Business. Appointments may be made by calling 852-7439, or by stopping by the Advising Center, located in the Reinhardt Academic Center, Room 024 on the lower level of the College of Business building.

Who is my Advisor?
Each department in the College of Business has major-specific professional advisors. Your advisor will be determined at the time of your first appointment. For more information please visit the Undergraduate Advising Web Site
What majors and minors are offered in the College of Business?
Majors in the College of Business include Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Equine Business, Finance, Management and Marketing. The College of Business offers minors in International Business and in Finance that are available to College of Business students only. The college offers minors in Economics and in Marketing available to all U of L students and a minor in Business Administration available only to students NOT enrolled in the College of Business. College of Business undergraduate students may pursue a Liberal Arts minor from the College of Arts & Sciences. A College of Business student interested in pursuing a minor in another unit must complete an application for the minor in the College of Business Advising Office, Room 039. The department granting the minor and the College of Business must approve the student's application. At that point, the student may pursue the minor requirements. A minor is not required. See Undergraduate Degrees for more information.
When do I have to choose a major?
There is no deadline. However, officially choosing a major insures that you will receive any departmental notifications and changes in curriculum. Inform the Advising Center when you have selected a major, and we will enter the information in the computer system for you.
How do I know which catalog I am following?
Students usually follow the catalog of the year in which they first enroll at U of L. However, students may choose to follow subsequent catalogs. In the event that a student is out of the university system for more than two years, he/she must begin under the catalog that is in effect at the time of his/her return. Please review the Undergraduate Catalog for more information.
When can I register? What day?
Registration dates for Fall, Spring, and Summer registration are found under Registration Information online at the Registrar's Office. Registration dates for graduate and undergraduate students are on a priority basis according to the number of course hours completed at the time of registration. For example, seniors are given earlier registration dates than juniors. All registration information is available online at the Registrar's Office.
Why can't I register?
There are a number of reasons why a student may not be allowed to register. Students who owe money to the university in the form of tuition, housing, or parking fines may not be allowed to register until arrangements have been made with the Bursar or Parking Office. If you are a freshman with less than 24 hours or a new transfer student, you are required to be advised before registration. If you have just been admitted, Admissions may not yet have had enough time to put you into the registration system. There may also be technical difficulties.
