Scholarships & Awards

The College of Business grants scholarships and awards on the basis of scholastic achievement, need, leadership, and other criteria. Scholarships are used for tuition reimbursement. Full tuition scholarships are equivalent to the in-state resident fee. Applications are accepted from November through early January. Award letters are mailed by April 1. The application will be online on this site in early November.

50th Anniversary Alumni Scholarship

Award to a graduate or undergraduate based upon need and merit.

The Alumni Association CBPA Scholarships

Awarded annually to either juniors or seniors on the basis of scholarship and need. The recipients must maintain a grade point average of 2.5. Normally scholarships of one semester's tuition (at the in-state rate) are awarded each year.

The Alumni Council Future Leader Scholarship

One semester tuition.

The William H. Bennett CPA Accounting Scholarship

This annual $2,500 scholarship is given to a full or part-time student entering the junior or senior year at the College of Business. Students must be in good standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of a 4.0 and have fulfilled all requirements of admission to the College of Business accountancy program. The recipient must be gainfully employed full or part-time. Scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

The James C. Bowling Scholarship

One full year tuition awarded to a full-time student entering his or her senior year at U of L College of Business, who demonstrates attribute exemplified by the late James C. Bowling, including entrepreneurial spirit, civic involvement, optimism, and a commitment to the welfare of others.

Bracker-Clouse IMBA Alumni Scholarship

Award based on (1) Essay: detail a plan for educational needs; (2) One letter of recommendation from IMBA faculty; and (3) GPA = 3.25 in first two semesters.

The John E. Brown Scholarship in Accountancy

These scholarships are awarded to Accounting majors. These awards are focused on scholarship, financial need and a career interest in public accounting.

The Oscar Bryant, Jr. Scholarship

Scholarship for outstanding incoming freshmen in the College of Business.

The David B. Burks Scholarship

In-state tuition for a Junior who is a Finance Major. Academic merit and financial need. Same student eligible Senior year if making satisfactory progress toward degree.

The Jane Offutt Burns Scholarship

For students accepted into the Master of Accountancy Program.

Caldwell Tank Scholarship

Award to a graduate or undergraduate based upon need and merit.

The Chilton & Medley CPA's, PLC Scholarship

Scholarship award to support studen(s) who study accounting and deserving in the eyes of the department and would help advance the College of Business.

The Churchill Downs/Warner L. Jones Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to Junior majoring in Equine business. Based on acceptance to the College of Business, scholarship (3.0 minimum), leadership qualities, financial need and plans to enter an equine-related career. The amount of the award is $1,500.

The John R. Craf Fellowship

Fellowship for the first year MBA student with cumulative 3.0 GPA and not eligible for employer tuition-reimbursement. $1,000 award.

The Crowe-Chizek & Company LLP Outstanding Accounting Student Scholarship

Awarded to a Senior Accounting major.

The Kathleen Drummond Scholarship

Criteria: Deserving female management student in the College of Business who needs assistance to further her education Award: $750.

The Equine Industry General Scholarship

Resident two semester tuition awarded to two juniors majoring in Equine Business. Based on need, acceptance to the College of Business, and leadership qualities.

The Equine Industry Program Scholarship

Awarded to a junior/senior majoring in Equine Business. Based on scholarship (2.5 GPA), and need. The award is two semesters of in-state tuition.

The Ernst and Young Accounting Scholarship

This award is based on scholarship, leadership, citizenship, character, and extracurricular activities. The recipients should also exhibit interest in Public Accounting. Two awards of one full year each will be given, one undergraduate and one graduate.

The Executive Women Alumni Scholarship

Award of $1,000 to a deserving business female student with need.

The Beth Fields Alumni Scholarship

This award was created by the college in memory of Beth Fields. Awarded to a junior or senior College of Business student. The amount is equivalent to one semester's in-state tuition.

The Gene Gardner Family Scholarship

Criteria: Awarded to a National Merit Scholar, or student of that caliber, who is enrolled at the College of Business or who has UofL admittance with intent to seek a College of Business degree.

The Ray Glass Scholarship

College of Business student, preference given to Economics, Finance, or Marketing major demonstrating merit and need.


The Louis A. Grief Scholarship

An award is made to a high scholarship junior or senior majoring in Accounting who, in the opinion of the School of Accountancy, exemplifies qualities of scholarship and professionalism.

The Henry Heuser, Jr. Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen to the College of Business.

J. H. Hilliard Scholarship

Two $5,000 awards - one to IMBA and one to MBA.

The Kent Hollingsworth Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in equine business, who in the opinion of the Department of Equine Business, exemplifies qualities of scholarship and professionalism. The award is two semesters of in-state tuition created in honor of Kent Hollingsworth for a deserving Equine Administration student.

The Humana Business Scholarships

Awarded to Accounting and College of Business students in good standing.

The Institute of Internal Auditors - Louisville Chapter Scholarship

One-hundred dollar award to the most deserving student as selected by the School of Accountancy.

Rose Mary Rommel Johnson Scholarship

Award to an undergraduate student based upon need and merit.

The Irma Klein-Shampain Scholarship

Scholarship for College of Business junior or senior marketing major with preference to someone interested in retailing.

The "KEEP GOING" Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to a business student who otherwise would have to drop out of school due to lack of funding. First preference goes to seniors (then juniors, etc.); and, within each college year, first preference goes to the student with the highest GPA. The scholarship is for tuition for one full-time semester.

The KPMG Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Louis A. Grief. A scholarship is awarded to assist an undergraduate accounting major.

The Kurfees Scholarship

Awarded to any outstanding College of Business student, in any discipline, who is interested in a career in business, and who has demonstrated financial need.

Louisville Sales Club

Criteria: Upper class status in 2007-08 school year, current GPA 3.0 or above. Special consideration for: Involvement in the Louisville Sales Club, participation in sales competitions, contribution to Student Sales Network, participation in RedShirt Company, and mentioning Sales & Marketing as career goals in personal statement.

The C. Stephen and Milah Lynn Scholarship

A scholarship for a College of Business student based on academic achievement and financial need.

The Buck Marshall Scholarship

Awarded to junior or senior finance students with a 3.5 GPA or higher who demonstrate need.


The William F. Mayer Scholarship

Scholarship for College of Business student majoring in Accounting, based on merit and financial need.

The John Mead Scholarship in Economics

The John and Carolyn McBride Scholarship

Scholarship for Marketing students with a good GPA and based on financial need.

Miranda Family Scholarship

Awarded to a junior or senior based on need and merit.

The Monroe Shine and Co., Inc. CPA's Scholarship

This scholarship goes to an accounting major, based on academic merit and fnancial need, and who is a resident of Indiana (preference for those who reside in the reciprocal counties of Clark, Floyd and Harrison).

Eddie Morris Scholarship

Awarded to an undergraduate business student based on merit and need. Renewable if re-applies and does well.

The Robert L. Nardelli MBA Scholarship

Scholarship for graduate student working on MBA degree based on merit and need.

The National Association of Credit Management Scholarship

The scholarship, established in 1966, is awarded to a senior in the College of Business based on scholastics, character, and leadership.

National Association of Women Business Owners

Awarded to IMBA students based upon demonstrated entrepreneurial activity.

The National City Scholarship

Must be currently enrolled as a sophomore (junior status at the start of the Fall 2008 semester). Must be a full-time student (any declared major) with a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need. In addition, must demonstrate exemplary leadership and scholastic ability, strong community service activities, a strong work ethic, and have an interest in pursuing financial services as a future career. Must allow release of your GPA to National City.

The Northwestern Mutual Diversity Scholarship

This $5,000 award honoring an outstanding African American, Hispanic, Asian or Native American College of Business junior or senior is available each semester. In addition to the financial benefit, the diversity scholar will gain exposure to financial services and learn business concepts applicable in any field through interaction with a financial professional with The Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.

The Sam & Bonnie Rechter Scholarships

These scholarships are for undergraduate business students and incoming freshmen.

The CardShirt Scholarship

$2,000 awarded in April (for 2007-2008 year). Scholarship will be awarded to students in senior standing (for 2006-2007 year) in the College of Business with 3.0 minimum GPA. Must write an essay demonstrating commitment to building community and tradition for the College of Business and U of L including volunteer work, membership to clubs at U of L/College of Business, and attendance of sporting events around campus. The Steve Reid MBA Scholarship

One-thousand dollar scholarship awarded to an outstanding MBA student.

The Maxwell Spicker, Jr. Scholarship Fund

Award to a College of Business undergraduate based upon merit and need.

The Frederick Walden Stamm Scholarship in Economics

Scholarship for student majoring in economics based on merit and financial need.

The Sterne and Agee Scholarship

Finance majors interested in investment.

The Bill Stone Scholarship

Awarded to College of Business students from a Louisville high school with a 3.0 GPA or higher pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree in the College of Business.

The Woodrow M. Strickler Scholarship

For rising seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership in the classroom and/or student organizations.

Strothman & Company Scholarship

Awarded to a junior or senior with need and a 3.3 GPA.

Bonnie Thornton Scholarhip

For UL students who are residents of Southern Indiana who are pursuing an undergraduate business degree.

The Vulcan Hart MBA Scholarship

Scholarship for MBA student and/or student with 3.0 GPA or higher who demonstrate scholarship and those who have a real need.

The Dave Warner Scholarship

Awarded to a student enrolled in the College of Business.

The Wehby-Colunga Scholarship

Scholarship will go to either a student who will be a senior or an MBA student. Person must be a management major, fluent in a foreign language with preference to those speaking Spanish or Arabic. Student must have a 3.0 GPA. Scholarship committee will take applications, screen and present to the Wehby's those they think qualify and merit meeting with the Wehby's for an oral interview. He desires the student to think globally, value diversity, and wish to contribute to our society.

The Welenken Himmelfarb Scholarship

This scholarship, donated by the firm of Welenken, Himmelfarb & Co., Certified Public Accountants, is an award given annually to an Accounting major in the College of Business on the basis of scholarship and need.

The John Wiley & Sons University of Louisville Accounting Scholarship Program

Three scholarships, two intermediate and one managerial.

The Dick Wilson Scholarship

Awarded to a JCC transfer student to the College of Business.

The Sebastian Zorn Scholarship

Awarded annually to a deserving College of Business student, male or female, who otherwise may be denied a college education.
